WALT Create a spooky movie reel with dialogue and a storyline

WALT Create a spooky movie reel with dialogue and a storyline

We in Room 5 love creating scary short stories using adjectives, similes and metaphors to paint a creepy picture and experience for our readers.

This time we came up with the story line and then made a film reel to go with it. watch below if you dare!

 Room 5 Go Swimming!

At Tamaki Primary School we have been learning to swim everyday for the past two weeks. It has been awesome, at 10.30 we jump on the bus and head to Swim Magic. We then separate into three groups with the swim teachers. We have learnt so many new skills and practiced how to be safe when boating. Check out the slide show to find out about Harley,  Saia, Boisi and Jairus's  experiences below!

Coronavirus... What on Earth is it?

Coronavirus.... What on Earth is it?

All of a sudden we are back into lockdown level 3 and Room 5 is embracing online learning once again. We thought it would be a great idea to research exactly what a virus  and specifically what coronavirus really is. There is some very interesting scientific language used when learning about viruses and we found this to be challenging.

Here is Cheldyn's wonderful slideshow, he has shown great understanding and has written some awesome explanations all about viruses!

We particularly enjoyed looking into street art that has popped up all over the world, the task was to think about the messages these street artists are trying to share by creating this art.

Then we designed our own art piece on google draw or on paper at home. Check out the slideshow!

AT Art Competition

Here are some of Room 5's entries for the Auckland Transports art competition. We are hoping to see these on the wall of the brand new train station. They blow the art onto tiles and decorate the walls.
We love New Zealand's beautiful native birds such as the kereru, kiwi, tui, hawk, ruru and kakapo, they were our inspiration for this art. You will also notice the native trees including kauri, nikau, rimu, tī Kōuka and harakeke.

BLM

The Black Lives Matter movement is hugely important and started up some passionate discussions in Room 5. We researched the topic going right back to when Martin Luther King JR delivered his "I have a dream speech". Then fast forwarded to current day news involving George Floyd and the unrest taking place in America. We then wrote News Paper articles educating people about whats going on based upon this research.

As part of our Hauora Inquiry unit we have been getting out for nature strolls to see what we can observe. The beautiful Autumnal colours are blowing our minds! We created these temporary mandala art pieces using bits and pieces we found on our stroll lay it out on a nice white background and took a photo. We're stoked with the results, see below:

Room 5 explored WW1 and what it would have been like to serve as a soldier in the ANZAC troops.

We have been focusing on the use of adjectives to make our writing more interesting and impactful.
Please checkout some of the letters we wrote home to our loved ones  + other information about ANZAC day in the slide show below:

We also read a fantastic story about the mascots kept by soldiers during WW1. Cheldyn made an awesome slideshow featuring some of these well loved pets:

We drew pictures of our favourite moments from either Tamaki Primary fun day or our pest eradication school trip up Hamlin hill.

Please check out our slide show!

    Trip to Hamlin Hill

As part of our Pest Eradication learning we went to Hamlin hill on a school trip! it was a sunny day as we set off into the bush. First we had to spray clean our shoes so that we didn't infect the native trees with germs. It was quite scary as we came across a herd of sheep with big sharp horns. then we had to walk through the paddock avoiding their dung!

Frazer showed us all the traps set  around the forest to catch rodents such as: rats, mice, stoats, weasels, possums, ferrets, wild cats and hedgehogs.  with out these traps all of our native species would be in great danger. we need to keep our pest populations down! It was very interesting, we even spotted a fantail!

FUN DAY

FUN DAY!💥👀💫

Our Tamaki Primary School fun day was a RAGING success!! We were deeply concerned as the rain fell from the sky. "will it get cancelled?!"

Absolutely not! The show went on and the heavens shone down on us. We enjoyed eating our sausage sizzle then set of onto the school field to get involved with all the different activities on offer:

Ripper rugby

Three Legged Race

Softball

Tug of War

Bouncy castles

We even got to hoon a police car and try on
the gear!

WEEK 5 - INQUIRY

Yikes!! This week we had Mike from Auckland Zoo visit us at Tamaki Primary. We learnt about all things Pest Eradication ( Riha Rawaho) Whilst these creatures may look very cute, unfortunately these imposters are messing with our native species. Sadly some of our beautiful NZ birds are becoming endangered and are even in danger of going extinct we learnt about all the different ways we can track and trap these creatures and even got to hold dead RODENTS!

Sharing our Learning...

Hauora is a Māori philosophy of health unique to New Zealand. It comprises taha tinana, taha hinengaro, taha whanau, and taha wairua.

Mental, Emotional, Family and Social and Physical wellbeing: We explored these aspects of Hauora by splitting into four groups and created these fantastic posters. Each group then presented their posters to the class
